Enhancing greenhouse productivity
In a smart greenhouse, a number of different sensors, each controlling different variables, are utilized. These sensors accurately monitor the greenhouse conditions throughout the day and adjust different factors in order to keep the greenhouse at its best flourishing form. Over time, the greenhouse will reach its best performance level and in turn, its productivity will increase. Under such circumstances, there is no need to employ large number of workers; that is to say that you can easily downsize your workforce.

A greenhouse is a closed building constructed for the growth of plants, making appropriate conditions to protect the plants from bad weather, wind, storm, ultraviolet radiation, and insect and pest attacks. New technologies and smart greenhouse designs can improve the conservation and growth of plants. Greenhouse automation is the software installed in the greenhouse as a technical facility. The emergence of the automation or smartization of the greenhouse dates back to less than 50 years ago. Among the first models of this smartization was the automatic opening of ventilation valves and temperature rise.

One of the simplest and most common examples of smart greenhouse is the irrigation of agricultural fields using automatic drip irrigation that operates according to the specified soil moisture threshold. Also, based on soil health data, a certain amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other minerals can be utilized for the greenhouse drip fertilization. Suitable water tanks are also used for the water supply management. These tanks are refilled through measuring the water level inside by an ultrasonic sensor. The ultrasonic sensor is a good solution, specially for the period of water scarcity.

By adding natural daylight during the short winter days, the crop yield and the soil weight are kept in a good condition. Sometimes, using optical systems, the necessary wavelengths are applied in the greenhouse at night. The temperature and humidity are controlled by the corresponding sensors. Some fog lights are also utilized for this purpose. Plants should be protected against temperature extremes. Maintaining the controlled temperature in a greenhouse is quite crucial. Temperature fluctuations can damage or destroy your plants in just a few hours. Remote control systems for a greenhouse are designed to protect against extreme temperature fluctuations. Ventilation of a greenhouse is also of the utmost significance. The ventilation can be automatically adjusted using valves controlled by a computer. The roof and side valves on a normal greenhouse should be large enough to enable the movement of the air.
